I will be reviewing the book Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning, by Peter C. Brown, Henry L. Roediger III, and Mark A. McDaniel. Because the book is so important I will be creating a blog post for individual chapters.  Each post will outline the main takeaways from that section. I will also share stories about how I have used these strategies with my own students. In addition, I will include tips from other academic coaches and teachers about how they have implemented these strategies successfully.

Introduction:

Make it Stick has become the cornerstone of my coaching practice.  It succinctly analyzes more than a 100 years of multidisciplinary research. The authors are very transparent about the limitations of the research and various methodologies that studies have utilized.  And successfully weight their recommendations accordingly.

Make it Stick transforms a substantial body research and makes it accessible to readers.  The authors are able to accomplish this through a combination of illustrative short stories, informative summations, practical applications, and effective suggestions.  Students, parents, and teachers can use Make it Stick to quickly improve their approach to learning.
